TESLA'S much-hyped truck will be revealed on Thursday, with the company’s CEO claiming it “will blow your mind”.
Elon Musk tweeted about the big reveal, saying that the truck’s unveiling will be streamed live online.
He added: “This will blow your mind clear out of your skull and into an alternate dimension.”
Not a great deal is known about the the truck.
However, spy shots show a sleek design, while a teaser released recently showed off modern LED daytime running lights.
Historically, Tesla has sold cars on the ‘cool’ factor, with Musk doing a great job of building his company’s brand image so that his products are desirable.
However, appealing to businesses requires more than that – a typical diesel truck works on running costs of approximately £1 per mile, and according to electric vehicle blog Electrek, Tesla is said to be targeting half that.
Factor in the fact the Tesla truck will need a huge amount of batteries to get any sort of meaningful range from a heavy goods vehicle, and we can expect the starting price to be very high.
If the truck is to prove successful, the cost per mile is key.
Musk will no doubt hope that the reveal of the Tesla truck will distract from a troubled production ramp-up for the Model 3 family saloon, which has pushed the truck’s reveal back almost a month.
The company has faced issues on the production line, with meeting battery demand slowing things down – Musk has referred to the situation as “production hell”.
